AN Hawaiian man has told his story of how he developed a true love for Bradford City through a video game.

Nicholas Deas, who is originally from Kansas, stumbled across the club when he was picking a team for his FIFA 20 career mode.

He was immediately grabbed by City's colours, logo, and underachieving status.

Nicholas had only bought a PS4 to kill the boredom lockdown was about to cause with all nonessential businesses and beaches closed.

Couple that with his wife falling pregnant and the construction worker insists he had plenty of time on his hands.

Over the next nine months, Nicholas would play the game for an hour a day becoming obsessed with the Bantams and the history of Bradford.

After watching a large majority of last season's behind-closed-doors games, he is ready to finally see what Valley Parade has in store.

He tweeted: “I hadn't even played a video game in about a decade. But I like sports and I wasn’t really interested in playing the games I was more accustomed to watching, so I bought FIFA 20.

"I liked Career Modes in the past and I looked into the EFL clubs because the structure was so different compared to the US style of pro sports. I thought a League 2 club would be fun to start with and try move them up.

"Bradford City was, literally, love at first sight. The colours, logo, the team being labelled, basically, a disaster (on FIFA), they were perfect. I played an hour a day for a lot of days basically the nine months until my daughter was born.

"Over the nine months, I really became obsessed with the club. League play was shut down by then, so I watched old matches on YouTube. I listened to history podcasts about the city of Bradford, about the club, I really tried to connect with them both.

"I watched 90% of all the matches I could last year. I got merch, bought my new baby merch, and repped the club out here in Hawaii.

"But I am now ready to finally see what Valley Parade is all about."

Nicholas got to see what it was like yesterday, albeit behind a TV screen, as City recorded a dramatic 2-1 win over Oldham.

He added: "I have never seen a live match at home with fans. I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the pitch, but I would rather it be washed out with the roars of the #BCAFC faithful.

"It was outstanding! A perfect ending, for me.

"Conceding the late goal gave me flashbacks of last year, so how perfect to push out of that and seal the 3 points in front of thousands of fans! Very different feel from last season!"
