A CAR which was left totally ruined after a fire has caused mass traffic to build up on the M62 this lunchtime.

Almost four miles of heavy congestion has appeared on the M62 Eastbound from Junction 22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to Junction 23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).

All lanes were reopened after West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire.

Highways England has confirmed nobody was hurt.

Traffic delays of 30-40 minutes are expected.

Highways England tweeted: "M62 J22-23 between Scammonden and Outlane, we are responding to a car fire with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"The vehicle fire has been extinguished and all lanes are now open.

"This incident on the #M62 eastbound J22-J23 has caused a delay of 30-40 mins and approximately 3.5 miles of heavy congestion.

"Please allow extra time for your journey. Now all lanes are open again these should begin to ease."
