THE Principal of a Bradford school has heaped praise on all her students for their GCSE results and said she "couldn't be prouder".

Laura Senior, Principal and English teacher at Dixons McMillan Academy said: "I'm so tremendously proud of them.

"They've overcome challenges, lockdowns, remote learning, but one constant has been their absolute hardwork, their sheer hardwork.

"Particularly in the last few months, they've had assessments to do, internal assessments.

"I couldn't be prouder."

Students had helped teachers to set-up a "Celebration Room" the day before Results Day, to get everyone into the spirit.

It featured balloons commemorating the Class of 2021, a board to say thank you to teachers and lots of food.

Hassan Hussain, 16, "did well" and said he was "absolutely over the moon".

He added: "I wasn't expecting it to be honest.

"I'm so glad now."

His dad said Hassan's commitment to his studies throughout the pandemic was "unparalleled".

Hassan will now go on to study Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Physics at Dixons Sixth Form.

Another student who is now looking to head to Dixons Sixth Form, is Ubaydah Baraqzai.

The 16-year-old said: "I feel relieved about exams, now all the stress has gone."

Ubaydah is hoping to study sciences at the sixth form.

Meanwhile, Bilal Khan got an 8 in R.E., 7 in Maths and the rest were a mix of 6s and 5s.

He said: "I feel happy, excited.

"I was nervous about two days before, now I'm relieved."

The family took a trip to London before Results Day, visiting Buckingham Palace and other attractions, and now wish they had waited until after finding out about Bilal's success.

Dad, Sajjad Khan, was rather philosophical in his views, championing students in this cohort who had overcome the most unpredictable of challenges.

He said: "We're happy at this time of year.

"These children are going to have something to tell in 30 years.

"All the best for the children that didn't get in."

Sajjad also extensively praised Dixons McMillan for the support they had provided to their son and all the other students.

He said: "I would recommend this school to anyone."

Eleanor Ady, 16, achieved three 8s and got 9s in the rest of her subjects.

She felt it was difficult to motivate yourself to work at home initially, during the pandemic, but eventually it meant she was working harder.
