A PROPOSED housing development in the car park of an Addingham Pub has been refused by Bradford Council.

A planning application to build two, three-bed homes next to the Craven Heifer, in a site described as a former car park, was submitted in April by P Croft.

It said the development would still leave 12 parking spaces for the pub and hotel, including some on the unadopted highway next to the pub which links Main Street to Green Lane.

There had been numerous objections to the plans, including one from Addingham Parish Council.

Now the proposals have also been refused by Bradford Council planning officers, who raised highway concerns and said too many parking spaces would be lost through the changes.

Referring to the plans to use this track for parking, highways officers said: "The use of this area for the purpose of parking will reduce the access to a single track, increasing the potential for conflict between vehicles and pedestrians.

"Given the existing pressures on the highway network in this location, the reduction in the number of parking spaces serving the existing use of the Craven Heifer would result in an increased pressure on nearby residential streets, which would lead to additional parking pressures on Main Street, a busy classified road."
