BLACK Lace front man Dene Michael got market traders and visitors dancing in the street as the town's latest shop, The Snug, was officially opened in Sheep Street, Skipton, today.

Dene was joined by Skipton singer Kathryn Delaney who sang a number of songs while joining in with Black Lace favourites, including Agadoo.

Town mayor Cllr Karen McIntyre was handed the keys to open the shop just before noon while mind magician, Franklin, from Leeds, impressed the crowd with his 'tricks'.

The Snug is located in the former Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop and stocks a range of soft furnishings, furniture, rugs, decor, items made from recycled plastics and pictures.

Tony Lawrence and his wife, Ruth, from East Morton, have taken over the tenancy and spent the last two months refurbishing it. They are looking forward to meeting everyone and offered visitors Prosecco as they browsed the shop.

Speaking after the official opening, Dene said: "It has been a great day in Skipton. The people have been great and joined in. I've loved being here and wish Tony and Ruth all the best with their venture.

"I'm back in Skipton in October at the Working Men's Club for an '80s evening and will also be launching my autobiography."

The book, Still Pushing Pineapples, will be out in October and on sale in major outlets including WHSmith and Waterstones. Dene will also be carrying out a book tour across Europe.
