A GRAND Grade II listed banking hall in Bradford city centre will undergo a refurbishment if new plans are approved.

HSBC has submitted a number of applications for its branch on Market Street.

They include changes to the layout of the banking hall, ,the replacement of "ageing" ATMs on the outside of the building and adding new spotlights that will light the building's impressive architectural features.

The building dates back to around 1900, and is one of several grand banking halls in the centre of Bradford.

The application says the internal changes will "reflect the changing way banks are operating" and would see new security measures and stud partitions added to the banking hall. It says any work will "retain the view of the decorative ceiling above."

The new outside lighting will "enhance the external appearance of the buildings decorative architecture whilst increasing the aesthetic of the street and discouraging antisocial behaviour by increasing visibility."

A decision on the application is expected next month.
