MEMBERS of staff from GP surgeries across Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale have walked, run and cycled thousands of miles to raise more than £1,500 for the charity Carers Resource.

The Modality Partnership’s ‘Let’s Get Modality Moving for Carers’ set out to cover 8,760 miles - because in one year, an unpaid carer can carry out 8,760 hours of care.

Together with family and friends the Modality team moved a total of 11,620 miles in May and June – without the assistance of an engine.

The money raised will help Carers’ Resource provide more support for people who provide unpaid care for family or friends in Craven, Bradford and Harrogate.

Chris Whiley, chief executive said: “We’re very grateful to the Modality team for all their efforts in raising this money, and increasing awareness of unpaid carers.

“Fundraising by local groups, individuals and companies helps us provide more and improved support to carers who really need it, so a big thank you to Modality and all those who donated.”

Bill Graham, spokesman for Modality, said: “Unpaid carers are the unseen heroes of the pandemic. We wanted to highlight the incredible work that unpaid carers do in our community, and help raise vital funds for Carers’ Resource.

“Everyone who took part did an amazing job and it has been inspiring to see their photos as they got out and about in Yorkshire. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the challenge.”
