WEST Yorkshire had the second-highest number of car seizures in the UK across 2019 and 2020, new research has claimed.

45,167 cars were seized in the region during this period, a figure second only to the West Midlands.

The research, from comparethemarket.com, analysed police data which was obtained from Freedom of Information requests.

It found that the UK as a whole saw 479,310 car seizures over this two-year period, with driving an uninsured car or having no driving licence being the most common reasons for cars being seized.

The five areas with the highest number of seizures across 2019 and 2020, in order, were: the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, Surrey, Lancashire and Kent.
