A GRANDMOTHER tragically died after suffering a spontaneous bleed on the brain due to an undiagnosed and aggressive form of cancer, an inquest heard.

Wendy Elliott, from Allerton, died on March 29 this year at Bradford Royal Infirmary after being admitted five days earlier.

The inquest heard that on the morning of March 24, 84-year-old Mrs Elliott, a retired bank clerk who lived alone, was making her way to the shops.

She was going to cross the road, near Ladyhill Park, when she saw a car approach and took a step back, but lost her footing and fell.

The inquest, held virtually at Bradford Coroners’ Court, heard Mrs Elliott rang her son, David, at about 9am, around an hour after the fall, and was not reporting any serious injuries but asked him to call around later that day.

When he arrived, his mother appeared seriously unwell and was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where she was found to have significant bleeding on the brain which was tragically unsurvivable.

Following Mrs Elliot’s death, a post-mortem and specialist neuro-pathological examination was carried out, which found the bleeding was caused by an undiagnosed aggressive cancer.

It was determined there was nothing to suggest Mrs Elliott, who had not complained of feeling poorly and was thought to be in good health, had been struck by a vehicle and that the fall did not cause or contribute to her death, but it was a possibility the bleed may have triggered the fall.

Coroner Mary Burke concluded Mrs Elliott’s death was due to natural causes.
