SEVERAL fire crews from West and South Yorkshire are currently in attendance at a huge building fire in Wakefield.

The fire was in a derelict building, measuring approximately 20 metres by 30 metres, on Langthwaite Lane, South Elmsall.

The Fire Service have advised members of the public who reside or work in the locality to keep doors and windows shut due to the plumes of smoke.

Road closures remain in place and it is likely that there will be a Fire Service presence into the evening.

The general public is also asked to avoid the area, if possible, to assist fire crews as they deal with the fire.

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service engines that were in attendance are from the following stations – South Kirkby, Dewsbury, and Normanton as well as two aerial appliances from Wakefield and Huddersfield. Supporting appliances from West Yorkshire are also in attendance.

The crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were from the following stations – Adwick, Askern and Barnsley.

In the last hour, the fire has been controlled and the incident has been scaled back to an attendance of three fire engines and two aerial appliances from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Approximately 30 firefighters and fire officers remain in attendance in total.

Crews that are now in attendance are from the following stations: South Kirkby, Normanton, and Castleford as well as two aerial appliances from Huddersfield and Wakefield.

Crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who assisted in the early stages of the incident have now left the scene.
