PLANS to build housing on a field in Eldwick have been refused by Bradford Council.

In Spring an application to construct six houses on agricultural land off Sheriff Lane were submitted by E Rowntree and D Marriott.

Access to two homes would be by Sheriff Lane and the others by Lark Vale.

85 people objected to the application, including local MP Philip Davies.

And the Council's highways officers also raised concerns about the proposals - mainly over how vehicles would access the homes.

They said the Sheriff Lane access was "unacceptable" in highway safety terms, and the Lark Vale access would require cars to pass over an existing shared driveway, which they could not support.

Refusing the plans, they said: "Lark Vale is a narrow cul-de-sac with no pavements and it already accommodates development. The applicant has not demonstrated that this part of the site could accommodate the additional requirements of four further dwellings - including the need for adequate off-street parking and a turning head of sufficient size to accommodate the needs of the development. "Sheriff Lane is a narrow, unmade road, with a substandard surface, lack of drainage, few passing places and is a popular recreational walking/cycling route.

"Additional vehicles associated with the development would compromise the safety of the users of this substandard stretch of highway."
