A new play and learn centre for children was launched in Bradford this week to encourage toddlers and their mums to socialise after the pandemic.

The new service will support more than 200 young baby and parent groups across the district as they return to face-to-face meetings in hubs, community centres, and other local settings as coronavirus restrictions ease.

Councillor Sue Duffy, Executive Member for Childrens and Families said: “The services this partnership provides are an essential element to the learning and development of our younger residents as well as supporting families in the early stages of growth. We want families to take advantage, attend these groups, tap into the resources available so that it builds a solid foundation in those early years to prepare children for school, life, and work."

Better Start Bradford, Bradford Council and Public Health Bradford have collaborated to work on the project.

The new partnership will allow children to be able to access interactive play and learn sessions held in community settings close to home at some of the most vital years of their lives.

Neil Leitch, chief executive of the Early Years Alliance, commented:  "After many months of coronavirus restrictions, with many choosing to meet online-only, this new support for baby and toddler groups in Bradford will no doubt be very welcome. We know that the pandemic has had a significant impact on the youngest children at such an important stage in their development, so the role of these sessions in supporting young families at this time could not be any more vital.
