A TEENAGER has appeared before York Magistrates Court charged with murder following a stabbing in Skipton.

Brooklyn Bell, 18, of Parkwood Rise, Keighley, is alleged to have murdered Simon McMinn on Wednesday, last week.

The victim, who was in his forties, was found in Aireville Park with stab wounds.

Because the charge was murder, Bell was not allowed to apply for bail when he appeared at court earlier today.

York magistrates sent him in custody to Bradford Crown Court, where he will appear on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Mr McMinn was taken to hospital but sadly he was pronounced dead a short time later. His family is continuing to be supported by specially-trained officers.

Three other men who were arrested as part of the investigation have been released in relation to the murder. Investigations are continuing in relation to alleged drug-related offences.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Steve Menzies of the North Yorkshire Police Major Investigation Team, has reassured the community that it is being treated as an isolated incident, meaning there is no threat to the public.

He added: “However, if anyone has information, no matter how insignificant they think it may be, then I urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information who has not yet come forward is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and quote reference 12210170118.
