A man has been jailed for crashing into another vehicle at a busy Bradford junction while being pursued by the police through rush-hour traffic.

Addeel Pervaiz said: “I’m an idiot, I’m sorry, I f***ed up,” after his Seat Altea collided with a Citroen Berlingo on Little Horton Lane.

Today, Pervaiz, 29, of Southmere Road, Great Horton, Bradford, was imprisoned for a total of 37 months for dangerous driving and earlier drugs offences.

He was convicted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court in June of possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply on August 24, 2019.

Pervaiz, a married father of three children, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on December 7, 2019, driving without insurance and possession of cocaine.

Prosecutor Lucy Brown told the crown court he was spotted by the police at the wheel of the Altea on Smiddles Lane in Bradford.

When they told him to pull over so that checks could be made, he sped off at up to 60mph, narrowly missing a traffic island before overtaking vehicles waiting at a red light on Little Horton Lane.

He turned right into the path of the Berlingo, whose driver was left dazed and suffering whiplash.

Pervaiz jumped out of his car into a passing Toyota Avensis after the driver urged him to get in. He then left that vehicle and was apprehended hiding behind a parked car.

He told arresting officers: “I’m an idiot, I’m sorry, I f***ed up.”

The court heard that eye witnesses to the crash spoke of “a big impact” and said it was “a miracle no one was killed.”

Pervaiz’s barrister, Jessica Heggie, said he was drug dealing for just one day two years ago.

He had no expectation of significant financial gain and had only a small amount of drugs with him.

He was using drugs himself at the time and selling them to find his habit.

It was a short piece of dangerous driving four months later, although Miss Heggie con-ceded that was because Pervaiz crashed his car.

She said that locking him up would have a serious impact on his wife and children.

Recorder Matthew Happold jailed Pervaiz for seven months for dangerous driving with 30 months to run consecutively for the drugs offences.

He was banned from driving for 42-and-a-half months and ordered to pass an extended retest before he can legally drive again.

Recorder Happold ordered the forfeiture of £181 seized from Pervaiz when he was caught drug dealing.
