TWO vehicles have been badly damaged after a crash involving a bus near a busy roundabout.

The collision happened on New Road (A65), in Yeadon, at its junction with Henshaw Lane, which is near the Sainsbury's Petrol Station roundabout that connects Yeadon, Rawdon, and Apperley Bridge.

West Yorkshire Police was called to the scene at 11.46am today and it involved a black Seat, a yellow van and a bus.

The driver of the bus, Will Forrest, said the initial crash was between the Seat and van.

He explained that the Seat was travelling down New Road (away from the roundabout) and turning onto Henshaw Lane, when the collision occurred.

The yellow van was going up New Road towards the roundabout, according to Mr Forrest.

He added: "The whole collision was then pushed into the front driver side of the bus."

Mr Forrest said his passengers were in shock as the crash unfolded and left shaken afterwards.

He added: "There was a young couple with a one-year-old girl in a pram, a group of women, one of which was pregnant. A regular passenger of ours with dementia and a few other vulnerable people."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said no one is believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

Mr Forrest said: "You have to be quick in these situations.

"Passenger safety is the main part of our job so our duty of care for all concerned is priority.

"The public may think we’re just bus drivers."

He added: "I called the ambulance but the police cancelled it as they were satisfied that everyone was okay, despite a passing-by NHS nurse saying they could have broken ribs and delayed shock."

A picture of the aftermath of the crash, taken by Matthew Tyldsley, shows a black Seat which is on the wrong side of the road and facing towards Henshaw Lane, heading away from the roundabout.

There is also a yellow van which has it front situated at the side of the Seat.

Both vehicles are badly smashed at the front.

The Seat's number plate is hanging off, with the front-left of the car crumpled.

The yellow van's front-left wheel is missing and the bonnet has been bent upwards.

There is debris littered across the road.

One person commented on social media to say their bus had been cancelled, as a result of the crash.

Henshaw Lane was closed for a short time before reopening and it is believed the vehicles were cleared at around 2pm.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "Called at 11.46am to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the junction of Henshaw Lane, New Road, Yeadon.
