PEOPLE are concerned, following the incident that happened in Aireville park, Skipton on Wednesday evening, says County councillor Andrew Solloway.

Three people were arrested over the death of a man found badly hurt in the North Yorkshire park at around 8pm on the evening of Wednesday 28th July.

Councillor Solloway added: “An incident like this is rare in Skipton but very concerning. Aireville Park is a well-used local park and a very nice place, so it’s unsettling when something like this happens. The police have said there is no danger but there is no doubt that the public are still concerned. I hope whoever is behind this, is brought to justice very quickly.”

The victim died in hospital after suffering serious injuries, police said.

One man was arrested in the town afterwards, while officers detained two others at addresses in West Yorkshire on Thursday.

All three remain in custody, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Areas of Aireville Park and the surrounding areas, including  the Craven Leisure centre suffered disruption while the initial investigation into the incident was carried out.

Det Insp Steve Menzies appealed for anyone with information to get in touch and asked drivers to check dashcam footage.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed something, no matter how insignificant they may feel it is and to contact them with this information.

“This is a tragic incident where a man lost his life. Investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, but I would like to reassure the local community that this appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

Councillor Chris Rose also paid tribute: “The death at Aireville park on Wednesday was a major tragedy. My thoughts are with the family of the bereaved for whom this will forever be a very great sadness. Such an event affects many, the wider family of the bereaved as well as the families of the perpetrators.”
