A HERITAGE team is looking for help from the community to turn Ilkley into a TikTok sensation.

The group has commissioned Burley-in-Wharfedale blogger and video maker Jim Coulson to head a project that will see local people create viral videos about the history of the town for the social media platform.

Using All Saints church and its rich heritage as a starting point, Jim will host three workshops where local people can come and help devise a series of short clips to celebrate some of the big characters from Ilkley history, exploring how they lived and their achievements whilst giving them a thoroughly modern twist.

“Think of it as a mixture of Who Do You Think You Are? and Horrible Histories” said Jim, who blogs as Bewildered Dad.

“We want to find out more about the legendary characters of the town, from the ones we have all heard of like Donkey Jackson to those that are less well known. We’ll find out all about their lives, how they interacted with the church and town, and then let our imaginations run wild to turn their stories into viral videos.”

The workshops will run on three different days:

● Wednesday, August 25, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm - open to everybody.

● Thursday, August 26, from 10am to 12pm - open to under 18s.

● Saturday 28th August, 10am to 12pm - open to everybody.

All will take place in the newly developed space at All Saints Church, with the sessions providing an ideal summer holiday activity.

Following the workshops, held as part of the development project at All Saints Church, Jim will use the outcomes of the sessions to create scripts about a host of Ilkley characters and everyone involved will have the chance to appear in the videos if they wish.

Anyone interested in taking part in one of the workshops should email jim@jimcoulson.com for more details.
