POLICE are on the lookout for a missing special breed calf.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Wildlife & Rural Crime Team have launched an appeal to find a Shorthorn calf today.

The baby cow has gone missing in the Ripponden area.

Shorthorn cows were originally developed to be dual-purpose, for both dairy and beef production.

But sometimes either one or the other quality is prioritised in certain bloodlines.

If you see the missing calf, or have information that might help, you should ring police on 101, or using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.

You should quote log number: 528 of July 27.

The Wildlife & Rural Crime Team also dealt with a number of other issues in the past 24 hours.

This includes six loose horses, two loose farm animals and eight dog-related issues (which includes bites and animals in hot cars).

There were also three reports described as "other".

A spokesperson for the Wildlife & Rural Crime Team said: "As always there may have been things that have been reported direct to local wildlife officers that may not be included on this report."
