Telegraph & Argus Editor Nigel Burton paid a heartfelt tribute to Rudi Leavor on behalf of the newspaper.

Mr Leavor, a well known leader of Bradford's Jewish community, died in the early hours of this morning, his family announced.

Mr Burton said: “I have been privileged to meet many interesting and inspirational people, but Rudi was unique. Not just for what he achieved (which was remarkable) but for the person he was: friendly, tolerant and forgiving.

"He always saw the best in people and they, in turn, responded to his generosity of spirit. His work building and strengthening interfaith relations was fully deserving of the British Empire Medal he received in 2017. Rudi was a huge fan of Bradford and always spoke up for the city and all its people. He loved the district and was proud to call Bradford home.

"We have lost a unique individual, but I hope his family can take some solace in the fact that his work and the relationships he fostered will go on.”

"The T&A would like to send its condolences to his family and salutes a remarkable life well lived."
