A MAN aged 19 has been arrested following an early hours knife attack in Huddersfield town centre this morning in which a man was seriously injured.

Police were called to the scene in Fitzwilliam Street this morning following an assault between 1.15am and 1.35am, in which a 42-year-old man received head injuries caused by a knife.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested today on suspicion of committing Section 18 assault and remains in police custody.

The 42-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment but his injury is not believed to be life threatening.

A police scene was in place in the town today as detectives carried out enquiries, which remain ongoing.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Detective Inspector Toby Facey, of Kirklees CID, said: “We are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries into this assault which, while clearly serious, is believed to have been an isolated incident between persons known to each other.

“A man remains in custody under arrest and we would like to speak to anyone who has not yet come forwards who may have seen or has mobile phone or CCTV footage of what occurred.”
