AN uninsured driver who tried to con police after being stopped saw his excuse fall apart in Bradford last night.
The man was stopped by police driving a black Citroen C3 in Halifax Road, Woodside, at around 7.25pm yesterday for an insurance enquiry.
West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit said the man told them he had "got a friend to pay for the policy", which turned out to be false.
As the car had no insurance the vehicle was seized by police and the man was reported to court.
The police were praised on Twitter by people who found the driver's excuse similarly ridiculous.
Paul Martin tweeted: "They try anything but still end up with their vehicle taken off them.
"Well done. Thank you. Hopefully the roads will be safer now. Be safe out there."
Police can hand uninsured drivers a fine of £300 and six points if they catch an uninsured driver, but if it goes to court, like this man's case is, he can be handed an unlimited fine and a driving ban.
