WORK has got underway at a Bradford park in the hope of restoring it to its former glory.

It’s almost a year since additional funding was announced for Bradford Moor Park and the first phase of the master plan is now in full swing.

The park’s Friends group has been working with Bradford Council’s parks team and Better Start Bradford’s Better Place project, which identifies and oversees improvements to parks and outdoor spaces, to generate a final design to ensure the space is used to its full potential.

Better Place is installing tunnels, a sand pit, double slides and a junior trampoline for park users to enjoy.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

As well as regular clean-ups, pond works will also be carried out to introduce new floating islands, plantation and benches.

Having recently discovered fish in the pond, the Friends group has been working to clear the pond of weeds, waste and debris.

Chair Naz Kosar said the group is determined to bring about positive change to improve the health and wellbeing of people who use the space.

She said the group is “passionate” about ensuring all ages and communities can come together following the Covid-19 pandemic, which has impacted everyone in some way.

Many people recently came together to enjoy a fun day and clean-up at the park, which was organised by the Friends group.

It included a bouncy castle, mehndi, face painting, games and children’s entertainment, while Yorkshire Magneteers helped with the pond clean-up, where items including jewellery and old coins were unearthed.

Naz said it had been an “amazing” event and added: “We had many families attend with their children and share their connection to the park, there were some interesting stories.

“It was great seeing children form new friendships and play whilst enjoying the great outdoors. The Friends of Bradford Moor group are passionate about making positive change and ensuring that the park is a wonderful place to visit.

“Since the pandemic we all know mental health is on the rise.
“The group will continue to deliver support including physical and emotional support as well as mind and wellbeing workshops.

“This is our park and our pride.”

The next clean-up and fun day will take place on August 14, with all welcome to join.
