A COUPLE of Bradford charities have been providing those less fortunate with gift packs and Quarbani meat over Eid.

My Foster Family, created by Shadim Hussain, gave gift packs to Muslim children living in foster care during the celebratory period.

Alongside that Hussain's Bradford Foundation Trust (BFT) were busy with the meat distribution to over 100 families.

Hussain said: "Most people tend to donate overseas because of famine and poverty in Muslim countries.

"This year we have seen a real big push towards doing it locally.

"This is probably a spin-off effect of what we have seen through the pandemic with people developing a better understanding of the realities of poverty on our doorstep.

"Millions of children in the UK are living in poverty. In Bradford East West we have got 40-50 per cent child poverty."

Families who used the service praised it and say it has given them much-needed hope.

One said: “I’m very grateful for your help if it wasn’t for your organisation I would be on the streets with no food.

Another added: “Thank you for listening and giving us hope

“Thank you for helping us, we are very grateful with the food parcel and vouchers you have given us,” somebody else said.

Another remarked: “I was stressed, worried and unable to make ends meet financially, but the help and support given has really given me hope. I am so thankful and grateful.”
