PARKRUN events are set to finally resume after more than 14 months this weekend, after the free weekly 5k event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The free Saturday morning run, jog or walk is back this weekend after a long wait for keen parkrunners, having been further delayed this summer due to issues in getting permission for events to resume from landowners.

There are a number of parkruns in the Bradford district and surrounding areas which will be getting underway, however one still remains postponed despite the dropping of Covid restrictions.

Parkrun events are held at Bowling Park, Horton Park, Lister Park, Roberts Park, Myrtle Park and Cliffe Castle, as well as junior parkruns in Roberts Park and Riverside Gardens in Ilkley.

In surrounding areas, events in Skipton and Brighouse will be resuming as well on Saturday, however the event at Oakwell Hall in Birstall will not be resuming this weekend.

Its organisers said that staff at Oakwell Hall have been working away at Covid testing centres in recent months and volunteers are only just returning, meaning there is a considerable amount of maintenance to be done at the park before the run can resume.

The organisers are also appealing for more run directors to come forwards to ease the burden on current volunteers.
