THERE were 45 patients in the Bradford district’s hospitals with Covid-19 this week, the latest NHS figures show, the highest count since April.

The patient numbers, from Tuesday, July 13 - the latest available - showed 33 people were in Bradford Royal Infirmary with the virus.

This is a rise of six from a week earlier and almost four times the number from a month earlier.

At Airedale General Hospital there are 12 Covid patients being cared for, up from seven a week earlier and three times the number from a month earlier.

At Airedale, a third of patients are currently on mechanical ventilators, while at BRI there are three patients on ventilators.

In Bradford patient numbers are the highest they’ve been since late April, while at Airedale patient numbers are the highest since the start of April.

Across England there were 2,970 people in hospital with Covid as of July 13, with 470 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally nearly trebled in the last four weeks, and the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 151 per cent.
