A NEW £1.5 million Co-op store is opening next week.

The outlet is on the site of the former fire station at Haworth.

Sixteen jobs have been created.

In addition to standard departments, there will a post office facility, in-store bakery, hot food and a coffee machine.

Store manager, Mark Swift, said: "It will be fantastic to have a Co-op in the centre of Haworth – and we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer customers so much under one roof.

"Haworth is the world's first Fairtrade village, which is something we very proudly support. We can't wait to welcome everyone inside."

Four village school children will perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony when the store opens its doors at 9am next Friday, July 23.

The fire station closed in 2014, despite a campaign to save it.

Plans for the Co-op premises, submitted by Dalehead Properties, were approved five years later.

Work began on the store last autumn.

Whitaker & Leach, based in the West Bowling area of Bradford, was appointed to carry out the construction. Its other clients include Home Bargains and the NHS.
