POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a car which failed to stop at the scene in West Yorkshire.

A Vauxhall Corsa was being driven towards Huddersfield at 12.20am this morning along Penistone Road, Kirkburton, which it collided with a man, 18, who suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall failed to stop at the scene and was found a short time later, and two men in their 30s were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a number of other offences believed to be in relation to the collision.

Both men remain in custody at this time and road closures were in place earlier today to allow enquiries to take plac,e but the road is now reopen.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision itself or anyone that may have relevant dash cam footage to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101, quoting log number 0075 of July 12.
