THREE men are in hospital with injuries after a police chase in the early hours ended in a crash in Manningham.

The men, aged 34, 22, and 21, were in a car when it failed to stop for police in Heights Lane, Heaton, at 5.12am today.

A chase then followed and ended shortly after when there was a collision in Heaton Road near the junction with Emm Lane, in Manningham, outside St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College.

This morning, a badly damaged grey BMW - which appears to be a highly powered M3 model - could be seen at the scene, missing its bonnet and with its front end smashed in.

The end of a stone wall has also been destroyed in the collision.

The 34-year-old suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other two men were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police said road closures are currently in place in the area as enquiries continue - First West Yorkshire said this morning some of its services were being diverted due to the incident.

West Yorkshire Police said the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the circumstances of the collision.

Debris has been strewn across the street by the collision, with pieces of stone and smashed car parts littered along Heaton Road.

The crash occurred right at the staff entrance and bus terminal for St Bede's and St Joseph's.
