NEWLY-elected West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin, has been urged to create a Green Jobs Task Force to identify and address the skills gap in moving to a zero carbon economy.

In a joint open letter, trades unions, environmental and social justice campaigners and low carbon businesses call for Ms Brabin to build on manifesto pledges with a strategy to ensure that West Yorkshire’s workforce is geared up to deliver on a zero carbon future.

These organisations want to identify green skills gaps and they say there are many opportunities for green apprentices and retraining of existing workers.

Stuart Boothman from Just Transition Wakefield said: “A Green Jobs Task Force creates the framework to scale up work in the districts into a full regional strategy, giving us real impact despite government inaction.”
