RESIDENTS on a new-build estate have defended their development after it was criticised by a nearby resident and Councillor.

Neighbours on the estate have presented a united front, praising the quality of their new homes and developer Persimmon for it’s quick and efficient approach to addressing issues.

Complaints were raised about the Cote Farm development in Thackley last week by residents on neighbouring streets and Idle and Thackley Councillor Jeanette Sunderland.

They complained about “poor finish” to houses and flooding on the site, but residents in Cote Farm have said these views are “not true” and said they were “disgusted” by the accusations.

Persimmon said it was resolving issues “amicably” and it is “committed to building high quality developments”.

A spokesperson for residents at Cote Farm said: “Everyone on the estate wants to put this right, we were disgusted.

“The houses are not shoddily built at all, my house is fantastic.

“I’ve had a new build before and they always have a few issues so you get your snagging list of things that need fixing.

“At my last property there were 200 snags, at this one I had 30, which says it all.

“There was some flooding further up the site as the drains had not been completed, and it flooded some gardens, but Persimmon came and resolved it, they put in a new patio at no extra charge.

“If you have an issue they come and fix it straight away, the majority of people on the estate are very happy.

“The lady who complained has been against the site from day one but it’s built now and we don’t want any animosity.

“Most people who have moved onto Cote Farm are from the local area, and it feels like we’ve been told we’re not welcome. We don’t want an argument, just to say Persimmon are doing a good job.

“We’ve got deer and foxes on the site which are beautiful and they are keeping green spaces to help the wildlife.

“We know there was some negativity but the site manager is doing everything they can and we don’t think it’s fair.”

Another resident added: “Persimmons have got out of their way to make sure residents have settled in without too much hassle, and they have also tried to deal with the Old Cote Farm residents too.

“The New Cote Farm community as a whole are polite and are very community focused.”

Persimmon encouraged anyone with issues to raise it with the site team, and Bradford Council said while it will raise Old Cote Farm residents’ concerns Building Control doesn’t deal with quality of finish.
