A PRIMARY school held a celebration to mark the conclusion of a special project.

The Academy at St James in Allerton has been taking part in The Venturists, a project designed for primary schools, with a focus on nine to 11 year olds, which gives them the opportunity to start social action programmes.

It helps youngsters to understand and explore issues in their community - and what they can do to help.

The event marked the opening of an upcycled play area and the new wildlife area in the school grounds.

IAV Services, based in Keighley, won a Bradford Means Business award, which was sponsored by Provident, and received £1,500 to gift to a voluntary organisation of its choice.

The money was donated to Participate Projects and used to fund The Venturists.
