TWO days of live music is planned for next month to fill the void left by the postponement of the Bingley Weekender.

The much-anticipated festival was due to run in the town from August 6 to 9.

It had already been postponed once due to the pandemic and while organisers hoped it would be able to go ahead this year, they said: “Unfortunately the lack of clear guidance for the events industry coupled with how close our event is in the calendar to the July 19 open day, we feel we have no option but to reschedule the festival.”

They said they had also been waiting for a Government-backed Covid insurance policy and that going ahead this year was "too much of a risk to take" given the lack of such a policy and the unpredictability of new variants.

However, Bees Camping, which provides camping for those attending Bingley Weekender at Bradford & Bingley Sports Club, has announced two days of live music on August 20 and 21 this year.

A post on Facebook said: "Camping available. We are currently sorting out the lineup.

"Also we are looking for bands who would like to help us out.

"With the rescheduling of Bingley Weekender we needed to do something to bring some revenue into our rugby club.

"People have been asking for us to come up with some kind of event.

"If any companies would be interested in sponsoring this event, please get in touch. Contact Beescamping@gmail.com

"Tickets will be on sale very soon."

There is hope the country will take a major step forward on July 19, with Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick telling the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show this morning: “It does look as if, thanks to the success of the vaccine programme, that we now have the scope to roll back those restrictions and return to normality as far as possible.”
