A BRADFORD doctor has branded a one per cent pay rise offer for senior hospital doctors as a ‘kick in the teeth’.
Dr Amir Khan has reacted to reports that senior hospital doctors in England could go on strike over the proposed pay rise.
The British Medical Association is looking for a four per cent pay rise, while the Royal College of Nursing has called for a 12.5 per cent pay rise this year.
Strike action has also not been ruled out.
Dr Amir says he feels for the exhausted NHS workforce who deserve more reward for their hard work during the pandemic.
Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dr Amir said: “Forty per cent of doctors are suffering from burnout as a result of the pandemic.
“We have got to be honest here that a one per cent pay rise is a complete insult. It is a complete kick in the teeth.
“They have worked incredibly hard.”
