TWO people were injured after a car knocked down a pedestrian on Shipley Airedale Road in Bradford this afternoon.

The road was closed and there were delays after emergency services were scrambled to the scene just after 3pm.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Police said that the accident, which was reported at 3.22pm, involved a car and a pedestrian.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which sent three ambulances to the scene, confirmed the accident involved a collision with a pedestrian.

They reported there were two people injured, one of which was more serious.

The person with the serious injury, which was to the hip, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary while the other person was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Road closures are in place so we would ask people to avoid the area at this time."

First West Yorkshire also tweeted: "Due to a RTC - Shipley Airedale road is closed. Please expect delays to services around this region."
