A CONVICTED rapist has been recalled to prison and jailed for a further 12 months after failing to tell the police and the probation service he was staying at a woman’s home several times a week.

Michael Mallinson, 32, was given an indefinite sentence of imprisonment in 2007 and not released until May, 2015, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the notification requirements after being ordered to sign on the sex offender register, also for an indefinite period.

Mallinson, who was sentenced on a video link to HMP Leeds, won’t be released until the Parole Board deems it safe, prosecutor Kristian Cavanagh said.

He had 24 previous convictions for 42 offences and had served time in jail for unrelated matters since his release from the rape sentence.

Mr Cavanagh said Mallinson had to inform the police and the probation service where he was living. He failed to tell them he was staying at the woman’s address several times a week. The court heard she was aware of his conviction for rape.

Mallinson’s solicitor advocate, Stephen Munro, said he realised how foolish he had been and how seriously the court would view the offence.

Judge Jonathan Rose said the notification requirements were important to protect people who might be at risk from Mallinson while he had been on prison licence for an indefinite sentence for rape.

He was jailed for 12 months but will not automatically be freed at the halfway stage.
