BOMB disposal experts have taken away what they suspect is a grenade after it was discovered by a man magnet fishing in the River Aire at lunchtime today.
The rusty device was hauled from the river near Crown Point Road, Leeds, and the road was cordoned off by West Yorkshire Police while officers from Catterick Garrison arrived to deal with it.
West Yorkshire Police's Inspector Tom Harrison said: "The device looked like an old piece of munition and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has now taken it away to deal with it. The roads around here will be opening again very soon."
The public was warned to stay away from the area while waiting for the explosives experts to arrive.
It is not known if the device would be disposed of by a controlled explosion.
