The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival is underway - although it was a soggy start to the event as rain swept across the hills around Holmfirth.

A fine array of classic cars, supercars, rally cars and stock cars were on display at the huge showground on Friday, with the promise of plenty to see throughout Saturday and Sunday too.

Visitors to the festival were able to witness several stunning Bentleys tackling the closed-road Wolfstones Hill Climb - a 0.8 mile course that forms the showpiece of the festival.

There was also a spectacular display on the hillclimb from a selection of classic rally cars.

Back on the showground, one of the most popular exhibits was the Hawk Stratos - a fabulous creation of the famous Lancia Stratos which was built to Conquer the world Rally championship in the 1970’s.

In another corner of the showground, visitors are able to view 18 classic stock cars in the Stuart Bamforth Stock Car Paddock supported by Towndoor. The line- up includes six former world championship winning cars, ranging from the 1950s to the mid - 1980s. These include the famous ‘Challenger’ #3 car that took local driver Stu Bamforth to an unforgettable world final victory in 1976.

Another popular attraction at the festival is the collection of David Brown tractors, with many still having great affection for the respected local manufacturer.
