POLICE have issued fines and warnings to motorists following a rise in complaints about obstructive and anti-social parking near a beauty spot.

Officers had received repeated complaints about issues with parking in Warren Lane, Arthington, near Otley and Pool-in-Wharfedale, blocking contractors and possibly emergency vehicles.

The road leads to a Yorkshire Water facility, with some cars parked blocking access, and also leads to the picturesque Arthington viaduct.

When at the scene, Leeds North West Neighbourhood Policing Team observed the bad parking, with complaints repeated by a contractor who said he had "had to cancel maintenance work previously, due to being unable to get down the road" because of badly parked cars.

Leeds North West NPT added: "Concerns had also been raised about whether emergency vehicles could pass through if needed, which is a very real possibility, given that there is an open water area nearby that is often used for swimming."

Officers issued two fixed penalty notices for obstructing access to the Yorkshire Water facility, and two other drivers were spoken to and reminded to park appropriately.

Police said they will continue to monitor the issue and "take action where appropriate".
