THE National Farmers' Union (NFU) is calling for urgent action to tackle fly-tipping in rural communities.
This comes as new figures from the Environment Agency reveal farmers are a group most affected by large-scale amounts of illegally dumped rubbish.
The NFU says a rising number of incidents is having a devastating impact on farming businesses across the country. They want more to be done to prevent it as well as giving appropriate punishments to those caught.
NFU Deputy President Stuart Roberts said: “This survey has again thrown into sharp focus the extensive problems fly-tipping is causing."
He said a NFU rural crime survey also revealed nearly half (48%) of its members had been affected by fly-tipping in 2020.
