HERE are the 14 worst drink driving cases which have been heard before court in Bradford over the past month.

Of the 14 people in Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court for drink driving, nine admitted their illegal behaviour, while the other five either pleaded not guilty or failed to turn up for their hearing.

All 14 were allegedly caught driving at more than double the drink drive limit, with the worst offender almost four times over the limit.

The legal drink drive limits are 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, or 107mg of alcohol in 100ml of urine.

First up in court on June 1 was James Grundy, who was allegedly driving his Mercedes-Benz Vito while being more than double the limit when he was stopped by police in Otley Road, Shipley, on March 25.

Grundy, 33, of Salts Mill Road, Shipley, has also been charged with driving without a valid licence, and possession of cocaine and cannabis.

Grundy wasn’t present in court, and was granted unconditional bail as the case was adjourned until July 1.

Also in on June 1 was Mohammed Zaheer, 44, of Second Avenue, Bradford Moor, charged with driving a Honda Civic while more than double the drink drive limit, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance on February 13.

Zaheer failed to turn up for the hearing, and a warrant for his arrest was issued by magistrates.

In court on June 2 was Sebastian Frankowicz, 46, who pleaded guilty to driving at more than double the limit on April 1 in Little Horton Lane.

Frankowicz, of Henley Road, West Bowling, was banned from driving for 16 months, fined £484, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £48.

Also pleading guilty on June 2 was 37-year-old Paul Griffiths, of Slack End, Buttershaw, who admitted drink driving at more than three times the limit, and driving without insurance or licence.

Griffiths was stopped by police driving his Volkswagen Passat in Oakroyd Close, Brighouse, on April 29. He has been handed an interim driving ban and is due in court on July 6 to be sentenced for his offending.

In court on June 4 was Kamil Borkowski, of Oakroyd Terrace, Manningham, who admitted driving at double the limit and also without insurance or a licence.

Borkowski, 27, was caught be police in Oak Avenue, Manningham, on April 3. He was fined £230 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34, as well as being banned from driving for 18 months.

First up on June 7 was Jonathan Adam, 42, of Minnie Street, Haworth, who admitted drink driving in Station Road in the village on August 13 last year at over three-and-a-half times the legal limit.

Adam has been banned from driving for two and a half years, fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95, and handed a community order requiring him to get treatment for alcoholism as an alternative to six months in jail.

Also in on that date was Ben Quirk, 25, of Martindale Close, Ravenscliffe, who admitted drink driving an cocaine possession.

Quirk was caught in Swain House Road on October 31 last year at almost four times the legal limit, and found to be in possession of cocaine.

He has been banned from driving for two years eight months, ordered to abstain from drinking alcohol for 90 days while being monitored, undertake 20 days of rehabilitation activities, do 150 hours of unpaid work, and to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.

The third drink driver in on June 7 was Kristi Kay, 25, of Tong Lane, Farnley, who admitted drink and drug driving in St Enoch’s Road, Wibsey on October 25 last year.

She was caught behind the wheel of her Peugeot 207 at double the drink drive limit, and over the limit for cannabis in her system. She has been fined £200, banned from driving for two years, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

In court on June 8 was Darren Broadbent, 39, who admitted drink driving on New Year’s Day.

Broadbent, of Bankholme Court, Holme Wood, was caught in Bridgeway driving his Ford Focus while over double the legal limit, and has been banned from driving for a year and 10 months, fined £440, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £40.

Due in court on June 9 was Harpal Singh Barsal, 34, of Woodhall Road, Thornbury, charged with driving at three times the legal limit, driving without a licence or insurance, and failing to stop for police.

It’s alleged that Barsal was driving a Mercedez-Benz E-Class in Leeds Old Road on May 8 when he failed to stop and had been driving drunk and illegally. His case has been adjourned to July 19 due to a lack of court time and he was granted unconditional bail.

Also in on June 9 was Elliot Wickham-Barker, 26, of Stanage Lane, Shelf, who admitted being double the drink drive limit when stopped by police in Sowerby Bridge on March 30.

He was given a community order requiring him to attend rehabilitation activity days and to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.

David Swatman, 42, was also in court on June 9, who has pleaded not guilty to drink driving.

Swatman, of Walnut Street, Keighley, denies being caught at more than double the legal limit on November 22 last year in Keighley. His case has been adjourned until July 13 for a trial to take place.

On June 14, Krasimir Dyakov, 46, appeared in court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to drink driving.

Dyakov, of John Street, Dewsbury, was caught at almost three times the legal limit in Canal Road, Bradford, on December 15 last year while driving a Mini. He has been banned from driving for two years, two months and ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work, as well as being ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.

Also due in court on June 14 was Trina Cawkwell, 46, of Holme Wood Road, but she failed to turn up for her hearing.

It’s alleged Cawkwell was caught driving at more than double the legal limit on February 7 in Bowling Old Lane while also driving without a valid licence or insurance. A warrant was issued for her arrest without bail by magistrates.
