COLE Stockton is staying put at Morecambe after signing a new deal, while the Yann Songo'o rumours have increased in intensity after the midfielder left the Shrimps late last week.

But with Simon Parker already writing in depth about the Frenchman, we thought we'd take a look at another of the potential names on Derek Adams' wish list.

There has been plenty of talk about Adams bringing in players he has worked with before, one of those being the versatile Oscar Threlkeld, who is now a free agent after leaving City's League Two rivals Salford.

Threlkeld spent four seasons, over two spells, under Adams at Plymouth, and notably stood out in the 2016-17 season, a campaign which saw the Pilgrims win promotion from League Two.

He made 42 appearances that season, 36 in the league, as the team kept an impressive 15 clean sheets, ending up second behind rivals Portsmouth.

He can play at centre-half, full-back and in defensive midfield, with that adaptability always handy in a long season.

The 26-year-old has tended to play in the latter position over the last couple of years, impressing with his energy, willingness to receive the ball and his calmness in possession.

Threlkeld started his career in Bolton's youth academy, but only made a handful of first-team appearances for his boyhood club.

He joined Plymouth on loan for the 2015-16 season, and helped them reach the play-offs, before joining permanently for the promotion campaign.

He rejected a contract offer from Plymouth in the summer of 2018 to make a surprise move to top-flight Belgian side Waasland-Beveren.

He was soon reunited with Adams on loan back at the Pilgrims, before leaving Belgium to spend a couple of seasons at Salford, where he last played under former Bantams boss Gary Bowyer.

Being a free transfer will put less pressure on City's summer budget, allowing them to spend fees if necessary elsewhere.

And with Threlkeld being someone who knows the league well, and has been promoted from it, under Adams no less, it is hard to argue against this being a shrewd signing.
