WE have been asking readers to let us know what makes their pet special - so we can feature them on our regular Pet of the Week page.

This week we’re sharing the ‘waggy tail’ of two adorable rescue dogs...

Says Ian Ratcliffe: “I have two very special dogs - Rolo, who is a big, daft, eternally happy chocolate Labrador, and Ozzie, an Australian Kelpie cross. We got Ozzie Christmas Eve 2019 from a rescue centre, he was approximately six-months-old, was skin and bone and terrified of everything. It took him a good six months to settle down with us, as he was constantly trying to escape. Now he’s the most amazing little dog; a brave, fierce guard dog, constantly at war with nature. Nothing is safe, from insects to birds, in his territory - even leaves blowing in the wind feel his wrath.

“Ozzie rules the roost, when play fighting with his bigger brother Rolo he uses his Kelpie instincts and goes for Rolo’s ankles.

“Our dogs are not pets, they are family. They get birthday cards, presents and cakes and at Christmas they get jumpers, presents and a full Christmas dinner.”

As well as featuring special pets, we are highlighting some animals who are seeking new homes. And we're pleased to report that a 15-year-old homeless cat with a heart condition that we featured recently has finally been adopted.

Jemima was taken in by Yorkshire Cat Rescue near Keighley and needed a home without other animals. A spokesman for the rescue centre said Jemima has now gone to a suitable new owner.

Another cat, described as a “special case”, which we featured alongside Jemima is still seeking a home. Eris is four and needs a patient owner and a quiet home. She would be happy as an indoor cat and can live with children over 12. Yorkshire Cat Rescue can advise on how to look after her.
