ILKLEY headquartered engineering and services business NG Bailey has joined a select group of visionary companies that have pledged to play their part in limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C to help limit the worst impacts of climate change.

The UK’s largest independent engineering and services business is working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), to set a science-based target to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

The SBTi is driving ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets.

NG Bailey has a long history of operating responsibly and has already achieved a 31 per cent reduction in its carbon footprint since 2018 but is committed to doing more.

The commitment comes during the company’s centenary year.

Chief Executive David Hurcomb said: “We recognise how important it is for us to manage our direct carbon impacts and we have a strong track record of adopting renewable technologies and delivering carbon reductions.

“Signing up to the Business Ambition for 1.5°C means we are committed to setting a science-based target to drive down our total impact across the Group.

“We are already working to define the target and expect to be able to share the details within the next year.

“As well as reducing our carbon impacts, we will also be focusing on a drive to zero waste, zero harm, being a great place to work, and delivering social value.

“We are wrapping this all up into our new Net Positive strategy which will put us in a position where we can put more into society, the environment, and the economy, than we take out.

“By focusing on all these, I believe our business will thrive, and make a responsible impact.”
