An AERIAL appliance from Bradford was part of massive response to a dramatic fire at a flat on the eighth floor of the Granary Wharf building in Leeds last night.

Three people escaped from the high-rise block of flats in Little Nevillie Street before firefighters arrived at 8.20pm on Tuesday.

The flames were clearly visible from the balcony, which overlooks Granary Wharf and Leeds Railway Station, and the dramatic scenes saw around 30 members of the public ring the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Bradford and Leeds fire station sent specialist aerial applicances and two pumps each from Leeds, Hunslet and Killingbeck, along with one each from Stanningley, Morley and Moortown attended the fire.

The flames were extinguished and firefighters used aqua vacs to help clear the building of excess water.
