FIREFIGHTERS have been at the scene of a major warehouse fire in Bradford through the night.

They were called to the scene, on Thorncliffe Road, near Valley Parade, at around half past midnight, where the two-storey building - a fast food supply business - was on fire. Firefighters used two aerial appliances, three large jets and six breathing apparatus sets at the scene.

Members of the public have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

"Appliances and specialist officers from various stations throughout the Brigade assisted at the incident," said West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Manningham Lane was closed from Queen's Road to Burlington Street, but has now re-opened.

Bradford Council has since said Thorncliffe Road, Burlington Street, Cliffe Terrace and Clifton Street are likely to remain closed for most of the day.

Jonny Earl, station commander at Bradford Fire Station, told the Telegraph & Argus there are now four fire engines at the scene, reduced from 10 and two aerial appliances at the fire's height.

The firefighters at the scene are now damping down, but there is likely to be a presence there throughout the day.

The fire service has worked with Northern Gas to isolate supplies to the building.

There are some concerns around the safety of the building on the Clifton Street side and a structural engineer has visited the scene.

Some schools in the area - One In A Million, Midland Road Nursery School and Al Mumin Primary & Secondary - will be closed today.

Station commander Earl said some of the building has been saved, but the back part of the building, backing on to Clifton Street, has been severely damaged by fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this point.
