A BRADFORD TV doctor says it is right to overreact about Covid variants earlier to prevent any future lockdowns.

Dr Amir Khan says the spread of the Indian variant to areas of England, including Bradford, was preventable if we had shut our borders off to India.

Bradford West MP Naz Shah yesterday called on residents to get tested after cases of the Indian variant were found in the city.

Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dr Amir said: “I think overreacting is the best way.

“Over the last year, we have underreacted and that has led to longer, harder lockdowns.

“A lot of this to do with the Indian variant was completely preventable.

“Had we controlled the borders to India when we knew about the Indian variant we would not be in this position now.

“We are in a vulnerable position now with the Indian variant because we did not control the borders when we should have been.”
