A WE BUY ANY CAR branch has been fined £1,000 for failing to comply with a police request.

The store in Railway Sawmills, Huddersfield, was found guilty of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required, at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court, in Battersea, London on May 21.

The firm pleaded not guilty back on November 9 last year.

A representative for We Buy Any Car did not appear at court for the latest hearing.

It related to a request from a police force on April 30 in 2020.

The Chief Officer of Police for Metropolis asked the Huddersfield branch of We Buy Any Car to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a blue BMW 1 Series Sport.

The information was needed as the driver of the vehicle was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

We Buy Any Car failed to provide this information.

The firm was ordered by the court to pay £1,190 in total, including a £1,000 fine, a surcharge to fund victim services of £100 and costs of £90.

This must be paid in full by June 18.
