A BRADFORD TV doctor says he feels emotional recalling treating care home residents during the early stages of lockdown last year.
Dr Amir Khan says it was a ‘really, really tough’ time seeing patients in care homes in the city and the emotional toil it took on their families, as people were discharged from hospitals without being tested.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock is facing calls to explain why the government failed to protect care home residents last year.
Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dr Khan said: “I can remember it very clearly, seeing patients in care homes. Discharged without being tested.

“We saw a spread through care homes I was looking after. I get quite emotional when I think about it.
“I have worked at same practice for 10 years. I know my care home patients really well. They were dying from this virus. Treatment options were limited.
“It was really, really tough. To say there was a ring fence around care homes, certainly wasn’t my experience at the time.
“This won’t be the last pandemic we have. We have to learn from those mistakes.
“I’m still having conversations with bereft families about what happened a year ago. It’s really hard.”
