A BRADFORD man "fell to his death" after prising open the doors of a lift at a building in Little Germany, an inquest was told this morning.

The inquest, with assistant coroner Raja Mahmood presiding, was told by coroner's officer Jonathan Dalby that Mark Ian Faulding, 49, died at 6.36pm on Wednesday, May 19, at Olicana House in Little Germany, where he was a resident.

The inquest was told Mr Faulding got stuck in a lift and fell into the shaft when trying to climb out on to floor three.

Mr Dalby said: "He got stuck in the lift shaft. He prised open the internal doors and has sadly fallen to his death."

The emergency services were called to the scene and Mr Faulding was identified by a security guard, Richard Pearson, to firefighters present.

Mr Dalby said the provisional cause of death was given as head and chest injuries caused a fall from a height.

Mr Mahmood said: "This death requires investigation over the next four months."

He requested forensic, post-mortem and toxicology reports, in addition to statement from police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Mr Mahmood also expressed his condolences to Mr Faulding's daughter, Chelsea Faulding, who attended the inquest opening.

He said: "Chelsea, my condolences to you and the rest of your family in respect to the death of your father.

"If there anything we can do for you and the rest of your family."
