A MOTORWAY road rager tailgated a car, continually flashed his lights, overtook and then punched the driver in the face.

Police are appealing for information after a 24-year-old man was seriously assaulted on the M62 in a "road rage" incident yesterday (May 24).

The assault happened on the slip road at junction 29 (Lofthouse Interchange) of the motorway between 5.30pm and 5.45pm.

But it all began at junction 30 (Rothwell Interchange).

The victim had been driving his orange Ford Fiesta westbound on the M62 when the suspect’s car joined the motorway at that junction and an altercation took place.

The suspect car tailgated the victim and continuously flashed his headlights before overtaking and forcing him to stop.

They then punched the driver of the Ford Fiesta, who needed hospital treatment for a deep cut to his forehead.

Detectives from Leeds District CID are carrying out enquiries to identify the driver or vehicle involved and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly anyone with any relevant dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101, or using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
